After NaNoWriMo

2 - Ivy Inquisitive
Well, I finished Ivy Inquisitive at 44,114 words! That comes out to twenty-eight chapters. I’m pretty proud of myself.
I have written significantly more words during this NaNo than I did last year (43,448 by November 30th at 11:59 PM!) … which is always a good thing. I’m hoping that next year I’ll be able to do something more than 45,000. Perhaps I’ll even try to 50,000 … but I may not be able to because school will likely get more difficult (it does, year after year, if you haven’t noticed) and other things are likely to come up. I’ve neglected some things I shouldn’t have during NaNo, such as practicing my clarinet and saxophone.

Ivy Inquisitive is going to need a ton of editing … and probably even rewriting … before I can possibly publish it, but I’m pretty pleased with the ending (with The Dressmaker’s Secret I was more pleased with the beginning than the end).
At the moment, there doesn’t seem to be much of a main plot and Ivy actually doesn’t appear in the story as much as I’d like (I got carried away writing about the minor characters), but, as I’ve said before, one can’t expect perfection when one is writing like a crazy maniac with aching head and stiff fingers.
I hope you all were able to make your word count goals, and if not, it’s not the end of the world and there is always next year. 🙂
Oh, and if you’re tempted to start editing your book RIGHT NOW, don’t! That’s crazy! You’re tired now! Rest for a couple days before you work on anything else (though I know I probably won’t) and then don’t even look at your novel until January. At least.
What am I going to do be doing during December?
Editing the last draft of The Dressmaker’s Secret.
I know. Fun.
What about you? And special plans for December other than enjoying Christmas with your family?

  1. Congratulations Kellyn!!!! I made my word count, though the book I was writing for 2015, was only supposed to be small, so the word count goal was 3,000. (I wrote 3,433 words).
But enough about me! Hoping your series goes well in the future. (and you as well)!
