The Dressmaker’s Secret: Updates

by Kellyn Roth |
January 25, 2016

014 (2)On Friday I got my paperback copy of The Dressmaker’s Secret! 🙂 I know; really exciting! Everyone I know is chastising me for not being more excited than I am. 😛
But I don’t usually get really excited about things.
At least, I don’t usually jump up and down and scream when I’m excited.
But enough about me! Let’s talk about my book. 😉
The are a few typos (surprise, surprise!), but for the most part it seems pretty well put together and I’m really proud of myself. 😛

It’s so amazing to see and stroke and hug and show off the physical copy.

I am the author of a book. Not just a half-finished monster in a notebook. An actual, complete book! Wow.
This may sound a little conceited, but that’s not how I mean it. I am just … happy, I guess. If you’ve ever published a book, you know what I mean, and if not, well, please don’t think me narcissistic. 🙂
001And, to balance the rejoicing with something a little depressing, to the left is page 13 of my book. 😛
Though none of the changes I’ve made are essential, I think they improve the flow a little.
At some point I’m going to update the files. Not exactly a second edition, but still, a bit changed.
And as if that weren’t enough, I’ve been thinking about this scene recently that I’d like to add in. I won’t, but I can dream ….
And, for your eyes only, the worst typo I’ve been able to find:
005
I know! I don’t know how I missed that! The sentence just ENDS!!!
To sum up, my advice for anyone self-publishing a book is ….
DON’T YOU DARE PUBLISH IT UNTIL YOU’VE GOTTEN A PAPERBACK COPY AND READ THROUGH IT!!!
~Kellyn Roth
p.s. here’s an album I made just for fun. 😉 😀

Oh, and if you find typos, let me know! 🙂

What do you think of my thoughts?

  1. Yay! Congratulations! This is truly exciting!
I haven’t gotten my physical copy yet, (though I’m yearning to get one.) but I finished reading (and thoroughly enjoying) my Kindle edition on Friday.
I did notice a couple typos and could email them to you if you want. 🙂

    1. That would be great, Sarah. 🙂 If you’re patient (unlike Baily *glares at Bailey*) I’ll probably be giving all my friends their own physical copy, you know. 🙂

    1. 🙂 Cool! What books were those, if you don’t mind me asking? And, I was gonna ask, are you someone from NaNo who I know? If you’ve already told me, I apologize. I’ve a dreadful memory for people on the internet, I’m afraid. 🙂

  2. Yay! Celebration!!!
Although I kinda already knew this bit of info it’s still sooooo cool! 😉
That pic of you is so cute! (cause, ya know, I took it) 😉
So, question; is the font on the back cover different sizes? It looks like some of the sentences are different sizes but I’m not sure if that’s just my eyes playing jokes on me or if it’s real.

    1. Rey-Rey? The Force Awakens reference?
Yep. You took it. Which shows how I can look good no matter how bad the photography …. 😉
Yeah, I think some of the sentences are different sizes. 🙂 Fea did that to emphasize certain sentences. 🙂

      1. LOL!!! Help me! I’m dying of laughter!!!
No, it’s not The Force Awakens, it’s a nickname Dad (bless his heart) gave me. 😉
        Ya, s’what I thought.

  3. So cool! (I saw this earlier but totally forgot to comment, sorry…) That’s awesome, and it looks so pretty and professional! I’ve never got a physical copy of any of my books, but that may be because I’ve never revised a novel/published one…but I sorta understand your joy, because that’s how I felt when I finished my very first novel. Of course, unlike your novel, mine was horrible and I just didn’t realize it at the time. 😀

    1. Ha, I know what you mean. You should have seen my first novel! *shivers*
It was called “Midnight and Twilight” and was about two wild stallions fighting each other. Like, one stallion would sneak up on the other stallion and steal the other stallion’s mare. Then visa-versa. And they would fight. Then it would happen again. In the end, the nicer stallion died … don’t ask. Now I look at it and says, “WHY DID I CREATE THIS MONSTER!!!” 😉
But, still, it was probably good practice. And it taught me never to invest time in a plot where, you know, two evil horses are fighting each other for no apparent reason. Just. Not. Worth. It.

      1. Haha, I want to read that novel! 😀 Mine was called “Raven” and was about a quest. And involved a lot of weird humor that makes me facepalm every time I read it. And that plus the cheesy-cliche-ness of the love interest I put in there… *coughs* Yeah, that was interesting.

        1. That sounds … like a book I would have written a while ago (last year 😉 ).Yep, I’ve had several novels about quests of one sort or another. Someday I should share an excerpt of “The Misty Lake.” *shivers* Cheesy romance/adventure about a princess and a prince traveling to find a lake and kill a monster to undo a curse …. *ahem* I was so weird a couple years ago ….

          1. Hey, at least yours has a better title than mine does. 🙂 Mine was a cheesy romance/adventure about this questing people who needed to kill the goblin king because of a prophecy. And then there was a second book, which was almost as bad or worse than the first.
But as far as sharing excerpts, that would be fun! I might just have to do that, hehe.

            1. I don’t know if I saved anything. I tend to delete anything that I find embarrassing. I do have part of a “mystery” (almost everything was revealed in the first chapter) I wrote a couple years ago, The Heirs to the Trunk.
I know. “My parents died and all they left me was a stupid trunk….” 😉

              1. I think I deleted one scene that I really didn’t like, but most of it I kept. (Like I said, I thought it was amazing, wonderful writing.) Ooh, I’ve never written a mystery before. Mostly because I don’t like planning stuff and with a mystery you have to plan a lot of stuff. But I actually do like that sentence. It has kind of a sarcastic, fun feel to it.

                1. Well, in the trunk were a bunch of old papers and belonging of the MC’s parents and an old diary with a bunch of stuff about the MC’s past in it and basically I just listed diary entry after diary entry for a while, then I went off on rabbits trails and made tons of subplots with minor characters. Most of it is gone, but I managed to salvage parts of it.
