Dares for August 2016

by Kellyn Roth |
August 8, 2016

When I was walking into Spooky’s (local pizza place) a week or so back with the fam, I was stopped by someone shouting, “Hey, you!”

I turned to the sound of the “Hey, you.” (I tend to respond to them …)

She, a girl about my age: *makes eye contact* “Do you remember me?”
Me: *recognizes the girl’s face but not her name or where she’s from* “Yes …?”
She: “You’re the girl that ate dirt!”
Me: “Yes.” *sigh* “I am.”

Granted, this is an unusual occurrence, but accepting wild dares is one of things I’m known for wherever I go, so … yeah. I probably have eaten dirt at some point. I remember licking a tree and singing (in front of the entire camp, may I add), but … not the dirt thing. Still, I must have.

Random girls usually remember that sort of thing.

Anyway, what am I trying to say? Well, I have a weakness for dares as long as they’re not life-threatening or just plain stupid. Dares make me accomplish things, like confessing crushes or tree-licking. Granted, neither of those are particularly grand accomplishments, but they were accomplished through dares.

So from now on, I’ll be daring myself to do certain things every month. You guys have to hold me accountable, ok? *imitates Marlin Brando every-so-slightly* No welching allowed.

Anyway, time for the dares for August 2016!

[GASP. This graphic disappeared. Maybe when I switched blogs it died. Enjoy this graphic-free post.]

Goals for August 2016

Reading

  1. Read ten books. Yep. I think I’ve read quite a few, so … not a problem.
  2. But one of those books has to be Persuasion. The plot thickens.
  3. And another one has to be from your review pile. And I mean it!

Writing

  1. Finish the first draft of Ivy Introspective. BEFORE AUGUST ENDS?!?! Are you joking? I soooo hope you’re joking! You’re not joking? HAVE MERCY, HAVE MERCY!!!
  2. Finish editing The Lady of the Vineyard. Ok, that’s not so bad. I can do that … maybe-kinda.
  3. Outline At Her Fingertips. But … but … I don’t do outline!
  4. Set up blog tour. Finish graphics, get the schedule all set up, and email/otherwise contact participants.

Just so everyone knows, sign-ups are still open for the blog tour! I NEED MORE PEOPLE!!! SIGN UP HERE!!! [Link removed.] You can find out more about that here. 🙂

Blogging

For Lilacs & Reveries:
  1. Post regularly, but keep your posting down to 3 per week at the most. Uh-huh. That’s happening …
  2. Get better at commenting on other peoples’ blogs. I’m so bad at this. I don’t know why. I can comment all day once it’s in my notifications, but unfortunately reading a post and commenting on it doesn’t work that way.
For Reveries Reviews:
  1. Post regularly, but keep your posting down to 2 per week at the most. This … is gonna be harder. I have so many reviews to post!
  2. Move from Blogger to WordPress. Yep. That’ll be happening sooner or later. Probably later. After my birthday when I have little to nothing planned, maybe. It’s gonna take a lot of work.
  3. Reduce the review pile by at least 5 books. That’s right. You can do it! (*talking to myself* *kinda weird*)

Life

  1. Reading the Bible. Every. Single. Night. BUT I CAN’T!!! Yes, you can. You like reading the Bible, remember? You always feel better afterwards. BUT I CAN’T!!! WHAT ABOUT NIGHTS WHEN MY FRIENDS ARE HERE OR WHATEVS???!!! IT’LL TOTALLY RUIN MY STREET CRED!!! Your friends are … all Christians, Kell. WHATEVER I JUST CAN’T DO IT!!! You have been doing it for a while. I mean, not every night, but almost every night. Just get over it!
  2. Also read the drivers’ thingy every night. And pass the written test on the 12th. Yeah. That’s right. You gonna drive, girl!
  3. At least a couple hours must be driven! I’ve actually already been driving. Shh, don’t tell
  4. Do a pushup. *grunting sounds* Accomplished! Exercise for the month is finished! Booyah!

Usually, there’d also be a section where I talk about how well I did at accomplishing last month’s goals, but … I can’t really do that now, can I?
Au revoir!

  1. This was too funny! I love your goals–or dares, rather. 😉
“Also read the drivers’ thingy every night. And pass the written test on the 12th. Yeah. That’s right. You gonna drive girl!” Believe me, this was on my list for waaaay too long. I just passed the written test a week and a half ago.
“Do a pushup. *grunting sounds* Accomplished! Exercise for the month is finished! Booyah!” This one made me giggle inwardly. I held something up for like thirty seconds last night and thought my arm would fall off. I told my sister that I had accomplished my exercise for the month. 😛

    1. Thanks! (to be honest, I think I exercise a little more than that … but it’s never in the name of exercise. It’s more like running around with a soccer ball or whatever … but actual exercise … yeah, that pushup is IT!)
Yay for you! I’m a bit worried about the written test (which I’ll presumably be taking this weekend).

      1. Ha, ha! My exercise is usually lifting/chasing babies. 😉
I was so surprised when I passed my test because I had freaked myself out about it pretty badly, but it went amazingly well. I’m sure you’ll be just fine!

  2. I love this idea! I think I’m going to do something like this.
Also, I am really interested in beta-reading for The Lady of the Vineyard…should I email you, or how does that work?

  3. Ooh, this is a col idea! I, too, cannot resist a dare. Ahem. Not that I’ve done anything crazy or anything…. (like eating drywall dust that was mixed with rain that I found on the ground outside our house … certainly not.)
On the commenting thing: I’m with you completely! But, I’m trying to be like one of my favorite bloggers (you may know her … PaperFury), and every time someone comments on my blog, I comment on theirs. So far it’s working, and I’m reading more of others’ posts!
    Anyways … cool post!
P.S. I’m betaing! Also, I should be able to work – if not finish – it this afternoon.

  4. Haha Kell!! That was hillarious!! Lol!;)
So I was scrolling through the post right, and I come to that pic dealio and I’m like “wait I recognize that place! Oh yeah right! Its view outside my bedroom window!! Duh Bailey!!” Lol 😉
Chyeah u did some perty weird dares girl! I don’t think I coulda done them…#chickens… I only did like one weird dare…you wernt there…but I had to propose to this dude….they made fun of me cause I got down on both knees instead of just one… Like I was desperate for him to say yes lol…but how am I supposed to know how to propose!?!? Besides girls don’t propose…unless there like desparate;)
Anyhoo! I will hold u accountable!!
And I know your gonna pass the drive test girl!! So don’t worry!! 😉

    1. WHY DID I NOT SEE THAT???!!!! OH MY GOSH THAT SOUNDS SO HILARIOUS!!!
I did see you do a couple dares, I think. I just can’t remember them. People must have been taking it easy on you while I was there. 😉
I was actually reading a book where a girl proposes … although she was just proposing marriage as a “business arrangement.” #regencyera #notgonnahappenevenifsheisweirdforherera XD

  5. Ooh. I bet the dirt was the “pudding”. Unless you’ve been playing more truth and dare recently? 😉
Ha. I’m amazed. These are actually all really good goals to have. So it’s kind of like a new year’s resolutions every month? (Or at least like my new year’s resolutions … normal peoples are all like “become a better person” but mine are all like “Read 100 books this year!!!! Whoot! Reading is great! And they don’t even have to be good books! Just read!” :P)
I’m (kinda …) beta reading. Which hopefully you should remember. 😉 (*gasps* How could you forget!? You terribly person!) Which reminds me … I should really finish reading the rest of that before you publish it … 😉

    1. Oooooooh, yes!!! YES YES YES!!!!! THAT WAS THE SAME GIRL WHO MIXED THE DIRT AND YOGURT AND I ATE IT!!!! That was it. I remember now. They were so freaking out. And I was all like, “Hmm. You can really taste the yogurt!” XD
Yep. It’s a new year every month. XD
      YES READ, GIRL, READ! 😛

  6. I beta-read!
Oh, the Bible…. It’s glaring at me from above my bed…. because I havent picked it up in forever… oh gosh. now i feel guitly. aAND EXCERSIZE OMG. we arent on speaking terms…. i need to set some goals fo r the omnth!

  7. If we’re over while you’re reading your Bible, we (all of us, or just the two) could do it together. ‘Cause I always find it harder to do with people around too. Or you could just do it in the morning instead. (but that’s hard at camp, so Plan A.?) (As if we were ever at camp for more than two weeks in our whole lives) (By the way, which girl was that?)

  8. Ah. Well. That’s not a terrible way to be remember… *is laughing I’m SORRY* xD
I’m not a ‘dare’ type of person… I’m not a huge competitive type and also, my Ma always said ‘truth or dare’ was bad so we never really played it… xD I asked her now though and she didn’t say it was ‘bad’, she just said it was silly so… That’s how my younger brain took it. ;D So I haven’t eaten dirt, but we have made mud pies which honestly… looked pretty good. xD
OK, you can DO IT!! 😀 You can finish writing/editing your books! And outline. 🙂 God’s with you, all things are possible. And I’m excited for your blog tour soo much! *high five and thumbs up*
The Bible dare is definitely a good one. =) Yeshua’s word is amazing… My Ma and sister have started a mini Bible study, with the book Titus. ♥ And DRIVING. AHHH. xD I really need to get the driver thingy but my parents both already teach me a lot… As far as I’m concerned, driving is like Mario Kart except you can’t throw banana peels at people. ;D (KIDDING. I’m never going to be allowed to drive at that rate… ;D)
    God bless!

P.S. I JUST DID FIVE PUSH UPS TODAY. OMGOSSHH. My family and I are trying to be healthier and my brother and I did some exercise today. xD

    1. My mom is always trying to be healthier … but she can never convince me to! XD
I actually am kind of proud of it. I always act so calm about that kind of thing while all the other girls are shrieking … it’s fun. Especially if you can keep a straight face. 😉

      1. It’s kinda a family thing now for us; we all know and feel we have to get better… Healthier… For lots of reasons. It’s pretty hard but we’re praying and starting. 🙂
xD See I don’t know if I could keep a straight face… I’d throw the dirt at them, too. 😛
