Souls Astray Blog Tour: Character Takeover Day!

by Kellyn Roth |
May 6, 2019

Did you miss me? I hope so, because I’m back with the Souls Astray tour, and it’s not fun to come back and find you weren’t missed. *quiet weeping* But yep, it feels a bit weird to not update every day … I’m also falling waaay behind, so that’s not good.

Y’all pray I won’t go mad, okay? I’m generally a pretty confident bloke (eh), so it’s weird that I’ve been feeling a bit like a failure lately. But I’m not. I’m just … not! So there we go. We’ll be fine.

ANYWAYS, let’s just get on with what you came for … CHARACTERS TAKING OVER! After this, I will not longer be writing this post – Adele, Troy, Millie, and Harrington will be!

Bring On the Characters

Hello folks! Troy Kee here! SO EXCITED FOR THE SOULS ASTRAY TOUR! I’m writing in green because that’s a good color. I prefer brown, actually, but Adele says brown is a boring color. So here we are in green! It’s like brown only less dead.

I frankly think you’re mad.

I’m not mad! That’s Adele, my … I don’t even know. But anyways, we’re taking over this post to give you some fun!

Indeed. *insert grunting sigh*

Harrington doesn’t think it’s going to be fun. *grins* But it is! So don’t you worry.

*waves quietly from the background* I agree with Troy!

That’s Millie Lark, Adele’s best friend. So here’s how this will work. We’ll start with doing a quick blog tour recap for everything so far that Miss Roth didn’t cover in the last post.

Since I’m the star, I should be doing this alone.

You’re not the star! Not the only one, anyway. And it’s more fun with a group. Okay, are you ready?

Yes!

*eye roll*

No.

Well, I wasn’t asking you; I was asking our fine readers here. *gestures to the audience*

They can’t respond, Troy. This is a blog post.

Didn’t you read the brief?

He can’t help it. When they were passing out brains, he was standing behind the door.

Okay, okay! Let’s just start.

Since-Saturday Blog Tour Recap

Review // Bella Putt

This was a very sweet review!

I liked how she mentioned … liking me. ?

You would.

Who wouldn’t? And Miss Putt, I do hope you’ll be able to read further books in this series – then perhaps we can get to know each other even better! I’m an open book except when I’m not!

I’m having that quote framed. “Except when I’m not.”

Amen.

I loved the picture Kellyn painted of how a life filled with sin, and absent of all repentance, leads to pain and heartbreak. She did a wonderful job showing how much we need God and should follow Him always.

Interview with Adele // Michaela Bush @ Tangled Up In Writing

Awww, I’d wondered if there’d be an Adele interview in this tour! Fun!

I did enjoy it! I didn’t think I would, but it was interesting, and fun, and exciting. Just think – people can read things I said!

*smirks because everyone wanted posts from me*

*slow clap* Very classy, Troy.

YOU’RE CLASSY.

THIS IS WHAT IT’S LIKE LIVING WITH HIM.

I KNOW.

I hope they’ll learn not to hold onto things – to not hold grudges, to not hold onto pain. And I hope that, perhaps, they’ll not make the mistakes I did.

Review // Hannah Gridley @ The Heart of the Rose

This review makes me happy. And I know it makes Miss Roth happy, too, as she’s mentioned she really respects this blogger!

Always good to hear nice things from someone you respect. *glares at Harrington*

Ahem. It is not my job to whitewash reality. Also, you’re annoying.

We’re so cheerful today, aren’t we, Harrington?

Actually, he’s more cheerful today than he often is. You get used to it. Kind of.

Well, I, for one, like this review! It’s good that people can understand.

I found that Kellyn did her level best to make me cry over these characters and their troubles!  I never cry in stories but I was tearing up a bit for these.

Guest Post // Rose K. @ Adventurous Bookworm

This one is an interesting guest post by Miss Roth! I really enjoyed it.

Frankly, I think it WOULD be more interesting if there were radioactive spiders.

To each their own.

… and you would NOT stop teasing me when I went through my superhero stage!

That’s because it was last year!

Shut up, Harrington!

In case you can’t tell, this is the original story of the Kees & Colliers series.

Well, you should read it if you like any of the following:

  1. Protagonists who aren’t perfect and make mistakes and learn
  2. WWI, the Roaring ’20s, the Great Depression, and WWII
  3. Mustaches – and hating Mustaches
  4. Wars not being good
  5. Father/daughter realationships
  6. Giving up everything for the people you love
  7. Lots of friendship and siblingship
  8. Brown eyes, blue eyes
  9. Big dogs that jump up on you and slobber all over your face
  10. France … just France
  11. Oversugaring tea and burning toast (accidentally or on purpose)
  12. Smoll adorable childrens
  13. No-nonsense talk about The Real Issues
  14. Actually being loving while you’re in love – ’cause it’s important
  15. Coffee, chocolate, and pigeons

Interview // Joshua Reid @ Take Up My Cross

Oh, war. *sigh*

I know! There’s one thing we can agree on.

But yes, this interview discusses something things like moral issues to do with wars, inspiration for the series, choice of setting, and plans for future writing eras.

Guest Post by Troy // Liz Franklin @ Home with the Hummingbirds

*giggles* This is without a doubt my favorite post in the tour!

*exaggerated eye roll*

Oh, you’re just experiencing lingering regrets!

Whatever.

I did enjoy writing it! It was fun. And gives some useful advice for difficult experiences. Let’s get #AMYB trending, everyone!

Agreed.

Wait, what?

Book Spotlight // Marianne Sciucco

Thank you for sharing this spotlight, Miss Sciucco!

Looks lovely!

Guest Post // Faith Blum

That was quite … raw.

I don’t want to talk about it.

Neither do I.

Well, I think it’s a fantastic post! Definitely worth the read. Especially if you want to know about the themes and the inspiration behind the themes … Which I for one found quite interesting!

I hope that someday someone will read Souls Astray and go, “Wow. I get it now.” Particularly I hope I’ll have a few readers that are struggling with fresh or lingering grief, guilt over circumstances beyond their control, abusive or otherwise difficult family situations, and trouble learning to trust again.

About Souls Astray

Adele has been lost for a long time now … (Lost is a strong word.)

Adele Collier has sought a carefree lifestyle ever since her tragic childhood. (Carefree. The blurb is so kind.) (Shush, you.) Determined to never allow anyone or anything to control her life or emotions again, (Awww, I would have given you such better advice if I could have read this ahead of time!) she consistently seeks distraction in gaiety. But shaking her ghosts isn’t as easy as she’d like. (Okay, ghosts is a strong word, too!)

Troy Kee has been alone in the world since the Great War took his parents (SPOILERRRSSS!) and left him in care of his younger sister. (Which was actually the only good part of this – getting to boss Lola around …) When she marries, (*grumble grumble growl growl*) he’s left to seek after his goal of a healthy, complete family. (This is so sweet!) (I mean, I’m not sure if that was my ONLY goal … simplification going on here.) But how can he focus on his dream when trouble plagues his family vineyard? (Trouble is a strong word!)

When Adele and Troy meet, (Dawww!) a whirlwind romance (whirlwind is a weak word!) begins—but can two lost souls have a healthy relationship? (I don’t think two FOUND souls can have a healthy relationship …)

TTFN!

~Troy Kee, Adele Collier, Millie Lark, & Millard Harrington~

p.s.

Do you love my mustache? What about apple pie? Surely you love apple pie …

Do you like to dance? What’s your clothing style?

How do you handle difficult situations with friends?

Can we end this post?

Remember, you can ask us any questions in the comments, and we’ll answer them!

I won’t.

Yes, you will!

What do you think of my thoughts?

  1. This was so fun! Great to hear from y’all in France. *nods* I love your mustache, Troy. And noo I’m not a big apple pie person, sorry ?Dancing is always fun though.

    1. “Well, I suppose it takes all types to make the world.” ~Troy
“I agree with you on the apple pie bit. Though I can’t agree about the mustache!” ~Adele

  2. I love it. ? Character interviews are the greatest! So Troy, how did you end up choosing to fight for your country if that wasn’t the mindset you were raised around? And now I’m curious and want to hear everyone’s opinion of Cammy…?
Also my K&C title is…whew…Coffee of the Wounded. ?

    1. Troy: COFFEE! NOW I KNOW I LIKE YOU!
Harrington: There’s not much in this life but coffee, so that’s good …
Adele: Why don’t you just answer the question, Troy.
Troy: Ah, right. Well, I don’t think it was really my perspective although it was my father’s. I’ve always cared a lot for my countries (both England and France) and protecting them seemed a matter of course. And I see it as protecting my family, too, which is very important to me. I respect my father and the conclusions he arrived at, but I find that, as an adult, I can’t necessarily agree with them. I’ve seen a lot of war, and someone has to stand up and fight.
      Adele: How perfect of you.
Millie: Oh, let’s not start fighting again …
Adele: Darling, you’ve never fought a day in your life.
Millie: *sigh* Let’s talk about Cammy! I certainly love my dear little namesake. She’s such a sweet little thing!
Adele: She’s quite noisy for being so small.
Millie: Oh, you know you love her.
Adele: *slight smile* I do. Troy?
Troy: Of course I love her! She’s such a little angel.
Adele: Angel is a strong word, but yes, she’s sweet.
Troy: And I think she’s brought us closer together, which is important.
Harrington: She’s a blessed little nuisance.
Millie: Well. She’s a blessing, anyway.
Adele: So I think we’re all agreed that she’s pretty great. Except Harrington. Who will come around, I’m sure.
      Harrington: Don’t push me, woman.
      Adele: *smirk*

  3. Oh my gosh!!!!! I’m dying over here!!! xD Actually, I’m laughing my head off…but I guess when you’re head is detached you’re dying anyway…sooooo *shoos my morbid self out the door*

Anyway…I LOVED this Kellyn!!! The characters are all so hilarious!!!!! LOL

    Also…

Troy, I’ve never met you (until now) and I have absolutely no idea what your mustache looks like, but you are such a fun soul, so yes. Your mustache is great. Yes to apple pie, too.

No, Adele. I do not like to dance. My…clothing style?? I have absolutely no style! xD I just throw on a t-shirt and jeans and possibly add a belt to that if I have pants that don’t fit (literally all of them). I also sometimes tuck my shirt in. That’s every day except Sunday. Let’s not go into my Sunday outfits. *Grins*

My friends and I haven’t ever really had difficult situations. We get along well. Unless you’re talking about a difficult situation we go through TOGETHER. Then, we just roll with whatever God wants us to do. They’re incredibly supportive. <33

    I suppose so…

Ohhh!!! You will? Wellll…Harrington, I'm really intrigued by you! And I really hope you answer these, but what is your favorite food? Well, better yet – do you even eat? Have you ever smiled? Why are you so…grumpy? (Forgive me) Have you ever ridden a horse? Do you LIKE horses? Are you Troy's brother?

Thanks in advance, and congratulations Kellyn!!!

    1. Troy: Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed our post. I thought it was lovely to write it!
      Millie: Agreed.
      Harrington: Hmmph.
Troy: Shush, Harrington. You’re not cute.
      Harrington: HUMPH.
Troy: Anyway, thank you very much for your compliments to my soul, mustache, and apple pie! It is deeply appreciated. Adele, do you want to reply?
Adele: Well, I don’t want to insult her-
      Troy: Don’t.
Adele: … but her lack of fashion sense is alarming!
Troy: Oh, girls don’t need fashion sense – unless it’s to know to cover all the right places.
Adele: … that is probably the single most ODD thing I have ever heard a man say.
      Millie: But very true.
      Harrington: Who even notices clothing?
      Adele: *raises hand*
      Troy: *glares*
