… to bring you a special news bulletin!
First, I just had a mental block and couldn’t figure out how to spell ‘bulletin’ for, like, five minutes. Which is weird because I’m usually a pretty good speller …
Second (and more importantly), I just finished writing Ivy Introspective! I know! It’s so exciting! Yes, I do realize I was supposed to finish it in a while ago … June, I think, actually … but you know what? It’s great to have it finished even if it was supposed to be finished a zillion years ago! Now I can concentrate on planning At Her Fingertips and not always feel like ‘I should be writing.’ You know … until November.
Today I was researching the distance between Edinburgh and the Scottish border (51.23 km, 31.84 m) and how fast trains went back then (15-20 mph average, though they could go up to 70 mph … if being chased by rogue cowboys or something, I guess). XD So much fun! It was such a relief to just be finishing and looking up one last fact that I needed to complete the novel! Not that it’s all that thoroughly researched … yet.
Anyway, the final word count is 48,192! That’s more than I expected for the first draft (although I’m shooting for 50,000 for At Her Fingertips this November!).
So … here comes the hard part …
I need a couple volunteers to alpha read it.
Now, I mean a couple, so don’t feel guilty if you don’t have time.
So here’s the thing.
I want a couple people to read the first draft (well, the revised first draft) of Ivy Introspective and tell me if they think I can feasibly turn that mess of words into a novel. It would also be amazing if someone were to point out the most obvious plot holes, but y’know … I should really do that myself.
I want to get the draft all to myself again by January 31st … so, yep. It’s not a super quick deadline.
Gives you time to dance a jig, write a novel (NANO ANYONE?!?!), dance another jig, eat some chocolate, eat some more chocolate, eat yet more chocolate, celebrate Christmas with your family, get chocolate for Christmas from your family, dance a Christmas jig while eating chocolate, read every blog post I post in between them, buy a copy of The Dressmaker’s Secret and The Lady of the Vineyard, read and review those copies, eat some more chocolate while re-reading TDS and TLOTV, and then and only then do you need to tend to your alpha-reading duties.
We should be good.
Anyway, here’s the link to sign up to alpha read! It will only be up for a bit, until I have a few people signed up. Then it’ll be closed. What? I only trust so many people to read my baby in her infant stage … the first people who sign up, that is. Although they’re random people … who I might not know ……..

YIPPEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’d read, but I’d probably forget to ’till next October.
Well, it would probably be better for your mind not to read it in this state. I feel so bad for the alpha readers. Their eyes will be burnt out. 😉
P.S. Your profile picture is really good!
Thanks! I like it myself! *tosses hair* 😛
Oh, congratulations! I would love to read, but I haven’t read all of The Dressmaker’s Secret. But it might help me look at in a different perspective, like as a novel instead of a continuation. What do you think?
*processes what I just said* I may not have time to read the full novel though.
Well, you have until January, and even if you just gave an … an outsider’s perspective (for lack of a better word … you know, someone who hasn’t read TDS and knows whether it would be okay as a stand-alone, too) for as much of it as you could manage to read. 🙂
Congratulations on finishing! That. Is. Awesome! I’d love to alpha read for you, but I haven’t read The Dressmaker’s Secret yet. :'( :'( :'(
But good luck! 😀
Well, maybe you could beta-read in … oh, May-ish, maybe, if I work hard. I’m gonna give away free ebook copies to the beta-readers. 🙂
Hopefully so! 😀
HUGE CONGRATULATIONS, KELLYN! 😀 *throws chocolate at you in celebration* You go girl!
Have fun jiggin’ and eatin’. ;D YHVH bless, and good luck in NaNo!

CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR FINISH! I would definitely read it, but I really feel like I wouldn’t have the time for it sadly. I went to a christian conference (only got back today) and I really want to put in more time to serving my God, and as well as that I have my own novel I need to write notes for for NaNo… but I know there are some more capable people out there!
That’s okay; I have lots of people volunteering. I’m thinking about shutting down the form now anyway. 🙂
Good for you!
Congrats, Kellyn! That’s so awesome!! 😀 *highfive* Love your profile pic, btw. 🙂
I would love to read, but I can’t give my email :/
best of luck!
Hmm … well, if you want, I could give you a link to the Google docs by comment and then delete the comment as soon as you get the link. But if you’re busy, I understand, too. 🙂
What kinds of things do you want to me to look for? Larger things, like plot holes, or meticulous things like sentence structure?
Just plot holes right now and lapses in character development and that kind of thing. Sentence structure is something I need to do myself. 😉
