Books That Should be Made into Movies

by Kellyn Roth |
February 23, 2016

When one of our favorite books gets made into a movie, we’re both excited and scared.
Excited because we, well, our favorite book has been made into a movie.
Scared because it almost certainly will be spoiled.
But today we live in a Utopian world and every book that gets made into a movie turns out exactly as you have always dreamed it would.
If I lived in that society, these areΒ a fewΒ books that I would be asking for movies of.

Mandy by Julie Andrews Edwards

A magicalΒ story of a little orphaned girl who climbs the wall and finds an abandoned cottage in the woods that she begins to fix up, making a home of her own.
Mandy is one of the first booksΒ I read. I have also skimmed over it several times more recently … and I still found it entertaining, heartbreaking, and healing. It is beautiful and would make a sensational movie … if it could be done right.

The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale

I don’t think anyone who has read The Goose Girl by Shannon Hale could disagree that this story of a misplaced princess could be anything but a hit!

It would be very hard to turn into a good movie, but if the moviemakers aren’t willing to put in extra effort for quality, I don’t want to see the movie.

This book is an adventure, a romance, and one of the best fantasy novels out there.

The Keeper of the Bees by Gene Stratton Porter

I believe there’s already been a rendition of this one, but I heard it wasn’t very good … and this book deserves a good rendition.
This is again a story of healing, though on a much deeper level than Mandy.
You can see my book review of The Keeper of the Bees here.

If you could choose a book that you’d like to be made into a movie (in an Utopian society) what would that book be?

What do you think of my thoughts?

  1. I’m always scared of the movies vs books. If I’ve already read it, I just brace to be disappointed by the movie. If I’m meaning to read it, and it gets made into a movie, then I’ll wait. Movie first, then book – much less likely to be disappointed that way!

  2. Definitely Come North With Me, by Bernt Balchen. Especially the chapter about the airfield Bluie West Eight. Two conditions: Use all original aircraft (no animations or modified Cessnas), and NO ROMANCE!!!
Boy would that be an expensive movie!

        1. Ah, I can’t know you too well! πŸ˜‰ If you have some deep dark secret, like a love of guacamole (why would you hide that … that’s a stupid thing to hide) I know it. *evil laughter*

  3. Im trying to think of a book that I wold want turned into a movie…prolly the rest of the narnias! (I loved those ones!)

      1. Aw I wuv that one! πŸ˜‰ I actually had a dream about it once…twas the awesomest dream EVVA! πŸ˜‰
But my fave was the prince Caspian one! Really liked that one! πŸ˜‰

  4. Pretty much every book I read turns into a movie in my head because I’m so visual. But I would love to see Son (the fourth Giver book) turned into a movie. It would be a beautiful story.

    1. I think I’ve heard of the Mother Daughter Book Club books. They sound really interesting … but I’ve got so many books backed up that I want to read that I haven’t gotten around to them yet. XD
