Renaming “Beyond the Wall”

Beyond the Wall

Hi guys! Just so you know, I wrote this post last Friday and scheduled it for today … I’m on vacation in Bend, Oregon, right now! I’ll be back this afternoon, though! πŸ™‚
There are thousands upon thousands of books named Beyond the Wall. Ok, maybe that’s an exaggeration, but there are pages of books called “Beyond the Wall” on Goodreads! So I’ve decided to change the title of The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy, Book 4.
To what? you ask.
Well, I haven’t decided.
Titling a novel is a big deal. Whenever people hear a name of a novel, they think of something. Let me give you a few examples of what I think when I hear certain titles.

  • The Hunger Games: the very word “hunger” indicated desperation, starvation, intensity. The title in full is intriguing. What are “the Hunger Games.” Who is playing them? Why are they playing them?
  • The Fault in Our Stars: I’ve never read this novel, but I have a general idea what it’s about. It makes me feel sad. You can tell that it’s a romance. Alternatively, it could be a comedy, but still a romance novel.
  • Twilight: one-word titles are really in right now (although that’s not what I want to do with the books in The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy). Twilight is a pretty good one, although I must admit a pretty stupid story is affixed to the title. Yep. That’s one genre I won’t be positive about. XD Anyway, when I hear that title, I think horror and darkness and blood and scary things. Very good title for a vampire novel.
  • Tales of the Fourth-Grade Nothing: obviously a middle-grade fiction comedy. I love this title even as I love this book. πŸ™‚
  • Gone with the Wind: dramatic, miserable, empty, hopeless, blown away … gone. But it can still be strong,Β gusty, a gale, a hurricane! This is one of the most awesome titles out there.

Anyway, that’s enough. You get the point.
For Book 4 of The Chronicles of Alice and Ivy, I want to have a nice title that gives a good feeling for the novel and attracts readers.
So … I need your help.
How can you help? Well, if you want to get a shot at titling Beyond the Wall, or what was once Beyond the Wall, click here! Save my life! πŸ˜€

p.s. One more thing. I’m giving away one signed paperback copy of The Dressmaker’s Secret on Goodreads. The giveaway will be starting on the 31st of this month and running until the 8th of August. Here’s the link.
Yet another p.s. I scheduled this post incorrectly and am now manually posting it. It was supposed to go out early this morning but I don’t know the different because “AM” and “PM,” apparently. Why, oh why, am I making so many mistakes lately?

What do you think of my thoughts?

  1. Ahh … that’s why you’re renaming it!
I guess ‘Beyond the Wall’ was just too good of a name. *shakes head sadly*
I stink at coming up with names, so unfortunately I can’t help you there, but I hope you find something! *grins*

      1. *bows* Ah. Thank you. The only problem with that one though is that it’s used by even more people than “Beyond the Wall” is (maybe? Don’t hold me to my word here XD)
I’m pretty sure coming up with that was a once in a lifetime experience though. XD

          1. BWHAHAHAH! One-hit wonder! BUWHAHAHA!
(Just so you know I actually did get that. ;P How could I not? πŸ˜‰ )

  2. I love Beyond the Wall, but I definitely agree…it’s a common book title.
    Hmmm…brain please work…how bout these:
    Above (or Beyond) the Horizon
    A New Horizon
Silver Starlight (doesn’t really apply to your book, but I just threw it in there)

    1. Silver Starlight … that sounds so awesome. Like a … horse. (I’m sorry, I think all cool phrases ought to be horse names …) πŸ˜‰ Seriously, though, Beyond the Horizon would be cool. Except there are fifteen pages of books with that title on Goodreads. At the moment I’m considering “Beyond Her Calling” along with a couple others that people suggested. But now I kinda want to do “A New Horizon.” πŸ˜€
There is actually one other “The Dressmaker’s Secret,” but it hardly exists (no reviews on Goodreads, not even a cover, doesn’t seem to be on Amazon so maybe it’s out of print or something), so I wasn’t too worried about that.

        1. Yeah, everyone suggested a lot of awesome titles, so I’ve been going through them, typing them into Goodreads, and narrowing them down that way. πŸ˜‰

  3. I really like Beyond the Wall, though…but I did the little thingy anyway…whatever it’s called, hehe.
*should really get a Goodreads account so I can enter in your giveaways…but I still don’t have a pen name and I feel like I need a proper one before I do*

            1. Of course, I’m not too selective about the books I put on my to-read list, so I list hundreds upon hundreds and then later I’m like … “Um … do I really want to read this book? No. Then what is it doing here? Um …”

              1. Haha, that does sound like a problem, though I’m fairly selective about the books I read so it probably wouldn’t be a problem for me. Hopefully.
