Five Fall Favorites: Christmas, Classics, and Wrap-Up

fivefallfavorites

Well, Five Fall Favorites is officially over! I’ve just got to tell you about two more genres, announce the winners, and say good-bye to all your lovely people! I’m so glad to have you here (if you’re a guest for FFF), and of course it was great to have you participate, regular readers. I love you, too … 😛

I do have to say one thing here today … this post didn’t get out sooner because I slept in and then my friends threw me a surprise party! That’s right.
So here’s how it happened … today, my mom was like, “I’m going into town to do some errands, and you’re coming with me.” Me: “What?” Mom: “Yeah, you’ve got to come. No arguments.” “Whaaaaaat?” “We’re just going to the library and to the —-‘s house to drop off some eggs.” “Mmkay … *confused because it is ridiculous to force me to go to town when I have stuff to do here just to do some errands*” But I wasn’t suspicious … just confused … I thought she might want me to get some driving time or something.
Anyway, I drove into town with Mom, and we drove up to the —-‘s house. Dumas (my fake name for my little brother on this blog) got out with the eggs and went up to the door (to make sure they were ready, I realize now), and then Mom was like, “[Friend’s name] wants to ask you something, I think.” So I got out … and she kinda motioned me into the house, and I thought maybe she wanted to show me something or something (once again, I was a little confused).
So I walk in and there’s this banner that says ‘The Lady of the Vineyard’ and some of my friends pop out and I’m totally speechless and very confused. XD Totally threw me off … I had no idea!

Anyway, it was an awesome party to celebrate the publishing of TLOTV. I really enjoyed it. We did a fun (TLOTV-themed) trivial quiz, and then a treasure hunt (with little quotes from the book) that led me to chocolate! (There’s a lot of chocolate in TLOTV … and in my diet, but that’s beside the point.)
It was so amazing! I have awesome <3 friends. 🙂

Christmas

(Christmas books are amazing! They’re usually so happy …)

3802

The Story of Holly and Ivy by Rumer Golden

This is such an adorable, touching story! It’s one of my all-time favorite children’s books. I feel like anyone who hasn’t read this longish picture book hasn’t experienced Christmas yet, sooo … 😛

5326

A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

This is, like, the only Charles Dickens novel I really love. 😀

1490690

I Saw Three Ships by Elizabeth Goudge

This is a great, clever, interesting story. Like everything by Elizabeth Goudge, the characters are thoroughly explored despite the shortness of the book.

113946

How the Grinch Stole Christmas by Dr. Seuss

Best book ever … so hilarious. 😀

900274

The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree by Gloria Houston

Sweet. Adorable. Perfect. I think it’s set in WW1 … another reason to love it.

Classics

(I’ve actually already used most of my favorite classics in different genres because most of my favorites are classics …)

54479

Around the World in 80 Days by Jules Verne

THIS BOOK!!! AAAAH!!!!!!!!!!! (that’s all I can say … just get a copy …)

10210

Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

This is one of my all-time favorite books … it would definitely make my top ten if I had to make a list! 🙂 I love Jane, and Mr. Rochester … he’s so funny.

6440

Ivanhoe by Sir Walter Scott

Get an audiobook and listen to it on a long car trip … it’s the only way. Soooo long!

18405

Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell

This book would make my top five favorites! It’s the best book EVER!!!

12957

Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare

All-time favorite Shakespeare play. I know this isn’t exactly a book … but I’m cheating a little so I can say something about this great play. 🙂

  1. I really like the last Christmas story you mentioned! I nearly cried the first time I read it!
And “Around the World in 80 Days” is another favorite. Now why didn’t I remember it when I was picking my books? (I guess I just missed it. It happens when you live in a house with 5,000+ books!)

  2. YES! Around the World in Eighty Days was soo good! I just kept getting mad at it, because I wanted them to hurry up. 😛 But I was very happy that they got married at the end. 🙂
