The #1 Way to Spread the Good News

That’s right. I’m talking about God on here. I know in the past I’ve made this blog mostly about writing. However, I just can’t do that anymore. It’s untrue to myself. I am a Christian. I’m not ashamed of it.

And yes, I’ve never been shy about sharing my (frankly offensive to the world at large) opinions, but … God deserves more than the occasional reblog or sly comment. He deserves some real posts!

So from now on, I will occasionally post about things God has laid on my heart or such. It won’t be the main theme of the blog – I couldn’t post consisting about Christian-related things; I’d run out of ideas – but it will happen about once a month.

The title promises a lot, doesn’t it? The #1 way to spread the Good News? Is there such a thing?

Well … yes, I think there is. At the very least, it’s the thing you must do before you can hope to share the Gospel in any other way.

Sooooo … what is this incredible magical thing that you have to do to share about your faith?

Simply … be a Christian.

What? you say. That’s kind of the point. I am a Christian!

Good job! You’ve done it!

Really, though, let me explain myself.

Billy Graham says:

“Understand that your own life is a great part of your witness.Β If my relationship with Christ isn’t vital, then I really don’t have a lot to share.”

At the center of your need to witness is your relationship with Christ! Without it, there can be no witnessing – and neither should there be!
Graham goes on to say:

“People not only listen to your words, they look at your life.”

The words to Steven Curtis Chapman’s goofy pop song, Got 2B Tru, come to mind.

Tru check it out I got a next door neighbor
And I can tell he’s been watching my behavior
Yo he’s heard that I’m a Christian guy
He wants to know if that’s the truth or a lie

It’s true! When people know you’re a Christian, they start watching you. If you act badly, they chalk it up to Christianity. But if you act like a Christian should, well, it’s the first sign a non-believer will see that Christianity might be worth looking into.

Because you is kind.

Because you is polite.

Because you practice what you preach.

As the chorus of Got 2 B Tru explains:

(It’s got to b tru) I’ve gotta be living what I say I believe
(It’s got to b tru) even when nobody but Jesus is watching me
(It’s got to b tru) every single minute of every day
If anybody’s ever gonna look at me and say hey it’s got to b tru

Now that you’ve started to think about it … it actually sounds pretty impossible, doesn’t it?

We’re ordinary people. Just because we’re Christians doesn’t mean we don’t sin.

But … a non-believer doesn’t necessarily see that. So … how? Is this even an achievable goal? Can only Jesus do this? The answer is yes … sort of.

As Billy Graham says,

“We still fail and aren’t always a good example, so our only hope is to come to God and surrender to Him. It’s nothing that we can do. It’s God’s work.”

Give it over to God. He can help you be like Him – and by being like Him, you can succeed in this world.

God never, ever asked us to do anything but believe – and surrender.

“Believe on the name of My Son and then obey all my rules and you will be saved.”

Instead He said …

Come unto Me all you who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.”

“If anyone would come after Me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow Me.”

“You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

Jesus is all you need.

Here’s a disclaimer … I’m not saying, “Be perfect.”

Far from it! You will never be perfect while you exist in this sin-ridden world. You are free from your sin, yes … but that doesn’t mean you don’t commit sins.

However, as a Christian, something in you has changed in a major way. It’s no longer about you – it’s about Him.

And this is what non-Christians need to see in you. That Jesus-ness. You have been resculpted in His likeness.

And that likeness is what non-Christians need to see to believe.

How do you strive to spread the Good News? Do you think I gave some good advice – or am I an underachiever? What do you think of by example? Are you looking forward to further posts about God?

What do you think of my thoughts?

  1. Yay Kellyn! I’m glad you’ve decided to step out and post more as a Christian. I do that on my blog and I have so many ideas it’s hard to balance with the other normal posts. XD
    *thumbs up* nice job. πŸ˜€

  2. Thank you Kelly!!!! It is such a good reminder to share our good news and practice what we preach!!! πŸ˜‰

  3. I love that you wrote this, Kell! X) And I think that I life of integrity coupled with sharing the gospel through words is so, SO powerful.
How I strive to share the gospel? I read, watch and listen to things that build and shape my passion for the spread of the gospel. I try to remember to talk to the Lord about it if I’m about to walk into interactions with the lost. I try to keep in ongoing conversation about it and ask Him that I might value His work above my reputation and not being awkward.
Definitely looking forward to further posts about God! What ideas do you have coming up?

    1. Yes, definitely! I’m not by any way seeking to discount sitting down with someone and telling them about God – of course not! But I think they’ll be more inclined to believe you when you do if they’ve seen you actually living your faith out in your life. Though … of course they can’t divine the facts about your faith just from seeing you live it, I don’t believe. πŸ˜‰
Definitely all amazing and necessary! πŸ™‚
Welllll, to be honest, my ideas are pretty rough at this moment. I have a half-written post about the sovereignty of God, but that may be too big a subject for me to handle! I’ll just have to see when I get closer to my next post. πŸ™‚

      1. I feel the same way – that people will be more inclined to believe the gospel if our words are backed by our actions. Otherwise, we’ll ring hollow.
Well, whatever they may be about, I’m excitedly anticipating those next posts in the months to come.

        1. Yes, most definitely!
Thank you! I’m hoping I’ll be able to write some that aren’t total nonsense. I can sometimes get rambly or say things in confusing ways so people think I’m losing my mind … πŸ˜‰

          1. Haha, well, I’ve never thought you were losing your mind. You do have a writing style different to other writers I read, though. I think that if your readers are open to that, we can benefit from hearing things through unique words, though. This might come across as a strange comparison, but I really like hearing people from other languages talk about the Lord in English. Often they word things differently using the vocabulary they know, and it’s harder to tune out on what they’re saying because I haven’t heard it put that way before. Their words stand out from the masses of native-English Christians whose words sometimes sound all the same.

            1. No, that makes sense! Though I don’t have an excuse for putting things oddly as a native-English speaker. πŸ˜‰ Thank you, though … that’s good to know! Nothing wrong with being a little unique. πŸ™‚

  4. Amazing post, Kellyn! I can’t wait to read more of your Christian posts.
(By the way, I just wanted to let you know I appreciate your request but I can’t be friends with anyone I don’t know irl on Facebook because it’s my personal account with address information and things, I didn’t want you to think I was blowing you off or anything XD)

    1. Thank you, Josie! Hopefully I’ll be able to come up with something that isn’t too ridiculous. πŸ˜‰
(Oh, no, of course! I didn’t know it was a private/personal account or I would have let you alone. πŸ˜‰ Not offended at all – completely understand. πŸ˜€ )

  5. I finally actually read this post. I’d put it off because I thought I knew what you were going to say. I was wrong. πŸ™‚ And I’m glad. πŸ™‚ Thanks so much for speaking to the true one thing the Bible says! No, you’re NOT an underachiever – not if you’re pursuing relationship with Jesus and letting Him testify and act and respond through you! That’s letting His life live through and in you, and He lives perfectly with perfect achievement! Thanks for sharing; I was quite encouraged by reading. Spot on! Looking forward to your next spiritual post. πŸ™‚
