Happy Birthday to Meeeeeee!

by Kellyn Roth |
August 12, 2016

Okay, first of all, IT’S MY BIRTHDAY OMG I’M FIFTEEN I CAN DRIVE AAAAAAH THIS CAN’T BE HAPPENING TO MEEEEE THIS IS JUUUUUST A DREEEEEAAAAM!!!!
#subtlecarrieunderwoodreference 😉
Anyway, in celebration, I invite you to … buy a copy of The Dressmaker’s Secret. On Amazon, Createspace, or Barnes&Nobles.
What? I’m totally just kidding … sorta.
Seriously, though … today I’m just going to ramble a ton, so bear with me. It’s my birthday. I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT!!!!
Ok, the first subject is blog tags. I … usually don’t remember to do them. If you tagged me years and years ago (or, you know, just yesterday) and I’ve yet to do the post, please comment! I’ve almost definitely forgotten! XD
Anyway, I should do some. Today. Now. That’s right! I can do whatever I want ’cause it’s my birthdaaaaaaaay!!!!

A while back (well, late July), Poppy at Poppy’s Best of Books tagged me for the “New York Times by the Book” tag. *steal her graphic*
NYT By The Book
That’s right. IT’S MY BIRTHDAY AND I DON’T HAVE TO MAKE MY OWN!!!

The Questions

and because it’s my birthday, I choose to respond only with covers! *evil laughter*

What book is on your nightstand right now?

13173664

What was the last truly great book you read [edit: or are currently reading]?

8130027

I reserve the right to change the questions, too. 😉

If you could meet one author (living or dead) who would it be? What would you ask?

381613

5770613

(in other words: WHY DIDN’T YOU STRIKE YOUR DAUGHTER DOWN BEFORE YOU LET HER RUIN MY FRECKLES!?!?!?!)

What books might we be surprised to see on your shelf?

13335037

How do you organise your personal library?

What book have you always meant to read but haven’t gotten round to yet?

14891

just the first one I remembered out of the hundreds …

Disappointing, overrated, just not good: what book did you feel you were supposed to like but didn’t?

296264

What kind of stories are you drawn to?

24734756

If you could require the president to read one book, what would it be?

96128

because he could do a better job …

What do you plan to read next?

Freckles comes home

in other words, how should I know?

Anyway, thanks for nominating me, Poppy! I enjoying doing it! 😀

I NOMINATE ANYONE WHO WANTS TO BE NOMINATED!!! Basically, if you’re reading this and you have a blog, you’re nominated. Do it! NOW! GO DO IT!!! And don’t forget to let me know so I can go check it out. 🙂

Ok, we’ve done that nomination … how about another one? This time, I’ll introduce you to a brand new yearly award … Selene Silver‘s GIRLPOWER Award!

What do I have to do? Well, to quote Selene:

All of you must write a blog post containing a (at least) 300 word blob about your favorite thing/book/person in the world.

Ok, totally doable! 🙂

My Favorite Thing/Book/Person in the WORLD:

There’s something about gummy worms that sets them apart from all other candy. Now, some of you may say, ‘P’shaw! Gummy worms are nothing more than glorified gummy bears!’ WHO ARE YOU!?!? WHERE DO YOU LIVE?!?! I MUST END YOUR LIFE YOU DON’T DESERVE TO LIVE!!!

The comparison of gummy worms to gummy bears is like comparing … comparing Keira Knightley to the rest of the world!

YOU JUST CAN’T DO THAT!!!

What’s wrong with y’all? Gummy worms rock.

Ok, first of all, they’re tasty. They just … taste really good.

Second, they are just the right kind of chewy. They don’t break off your teeth or anything like that, but they don’t melt in your mouth either. When your put a gummy worm in your mouth, you’re all like, “EEW!!!” and then you’re like, “AAAH!!!” That should be their slogan. Because they feel so weird until you … shift them around in your mouth so they don’t feel quite so weird.

If you’re one of those weird people who don’t believe my good word, try one out for yourself! Go down to your local almost-any-store and pick out a package! You might not want to go for sour on your first rodeo (er, gummy-worm-eo), but that’s up to you. YOU THINK YOU CAN HANDLE THAT SOUR??? WELL, I DON’T BUT YOU CAN TRY!!!

What? Still not 300? But I’ve reached maximum silliness!!! YOU CAN PUT A WORD COUNT METER TO ART, MA PEOPLES!

Moving on. Put that gummy worm in your mouth and chew … chew … chew … and let the sweet taste of gummy worms envelope your being! Wow, I am really hungry all of the sudden! And I just ate! Eesh.

So, guys, get yourself a gummy worm and save the world, ‘cause I ain’t! WORD!

300 words exactly. XD No, I’m not trying to win … if I was trying to win, I would have been funny. And therefore wrecked my chances entirely …

Now that I’ve done that, um … there were other people who tagged me, I know. I just … can’t remember any of them. XD

Well, how about some random facts about me? Not a certain number, just as many as I can think of. So.

Quick note: I came back up her after I finished with the ‘facts’ to let you know that …

  1. I’m sayin’ some pretty controversial things here (like suggesting Captain Widow! Or … Black America (what, a little racist?). Capblackamericawidow? Capwidow?), and
  2. Most of them have nothing to do with me. XD

Moving on …

  • I’m in love cheez-its. Yep. I’m in love with a lot of things … 😉
  • I NEED A PUPPY!!! Will someone tell my parents this? They don’t seem to understand …
  • Guys. I think you can help falling in love. It’s totally a choice! So shut up.
  • However, love is an open doooooooor!!!
  • Ignore that last one. It came from my emotion.
  • Yes, I only have one emotion. Other people have ’emotions.’ I don’t. Emotion. Singular.
  • You’re not finding out what that emotion is. 😛
  • I’m thinking about writing a short story about Mr. and Mrs. Knight (TDS Mr. and Mrs. Knight) before they were married. Your thoughts? It would be called ‘God Love a Yankee.’
  • Please don’t comment on the title. It’s a WIP. XD
  • Also came up with a very short one about Nettie. Set around 1864-ish. Would contain spoilers for TDS. Calling it ‘A Ring Across An Ocean.’
  • Maverick is an awesome movie.
  • Captain America and the Black Widow were meant for each other. I’m sorry. They just are. I don’t care what you say.
  • Life ain’t always what you think it oughta be.
  • Yes, I am just making random statements now.
  • *whistles tune of If I Die Young*
  • So, I have four nieces and two nephews. They’re pretty cool. *nods* Judy (from TLOTV) actually takes after one of them.
  • I’m going to finish editing TLOTV by the 20th. I could use your input, if you’re interested in beta-reading. 🙂
  • Oh, and I also need people to sign-up for the blog tour still!
  • And … after midnight today, the cover contest will be ending, and I’ll have to choose. *sigh* I think I’m gonna have to call in outside help. 😛
  • Are y’all very attached to Ivy Introspective? Because … it needs to be trashed. XD
  • I admit that this is just one of my bad writing days. I’m sure I’ll feel better about good ol’ IvIn tomorrow. 🙂 [Quick note: I’m feeling much better about it now, so …]
  • Furthermore, how does one write about an autistic child? Could Ivy even be autistic, based on the little I wrote about her in TDS? WHY DO I CONSTANTLY BURY MYSELF IN SUBJECTS I DON’T UNDERSTAND?!?!?!
  • Oh, and sorry for the hectic posting, guys. We’ll get into a regular schedule soon, I promise. 🙂
  • Anyway, um … I LIKE CHEESE!!!
  • We’re thinking about getting a puppy. That’s right. Another dog.

That’s about all I can think of now.

~Kellyn Roth

p.s. Actually having a pretty sucky birthday up to this moment. Nothing I wanted to do today is actually happening. It’s boring and I can’t think what to do and my mom thought we had my birth certificate but we don’t, so I can’t take my written driving test. Which was one of the things I’ve been planning since I was, like, six, to take the written driving test and get my learner’s permit the moment I could. I can’t believe my mom didn’t check and make sure … it’s so weird. She usually gets everything all set up. And now I feel like a failed 15-year-old. It seems like all those dreams I’ve been having about those awful birthday parties (yep … I’ve been having recurring dreams about my birthday party being an epic fail) are coming true. But it’s only 1:30 and maybe the day will get better. Sorry for the rant. XD

What do you think of my thoughts?

  1. HAPPPPPPY BIRTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTHDAY!!!!
Ugh! I feel ya on the awful birthday! In March I had my 14th. I was allowed to get up at 6 am (I didn’t want to earlier to risk waking up younger siblings…) and I wanted to make muffins for everyone before they got up … but my dad had got up so late the previous day that we didn’t have ingredients. *sigh* I just wanted to go to the bookstore, and my mom and sister convinced me to go to B&N instead of our local bookstore … and it had ABSOLUTELY NO BOOKS THAT I LIKE. So I didn’t get to get any books like I’d hoped. I didn’t get the ONE BOOK THAT I HAD SPECIFICALLY SAID I WANTED THE MOST FOR BD AND XMAS. I got sick and therefore couldn’t make myself eat ice cream. The food that I had wanted made me feel worse. My dad took me to Starbucks and I shared some with my 3 yr old sister, and she dumped some of it on her, so I had to clean it up. I told my mom that I didn’t want a cake … until on my actually birthday I did but we didn’t have ingredients and my mom made me feel guilty for not wanting one. We went to church that night and my friend didn’t remember it was my birthday – neither did anyone else, actually. We didn’t get to watch the movie that I wanted to watch really badly. And I stayed up light, making me feel worse and I don’t like staying up.
Sorry … that was a really long rant …. HAPPY BIRTHDAY AND CONGRATSSSSSSS ON BEING 15!!!!

  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KELL!
I hope your birthday ends up better. Sorry to hear about the missing birth certificate thing… (I actually, *coughcough* will be eighteen in a month, but I still only have a permit, and not a license. Oops.)
ALSO, MAVERICK IS AN AWESOME MOVIE. I JUST SAW THAT ONE RECENTLY WITH MY PARENTS.

    1. MAVERICK IS AWESOME!!! 😀 Oh, really? Well, lots of people wait to get their license … just not in my family. Yep. My dad drives for a living, so … XD
Anyway, I was about to post the cover contest announcements and stuff and SPAMMY BLOCKED ME!!! That evil Spammy.

  3. HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY, KELLYN!!!!! 😀 *lots of cake, awesome gifts, and streamers*
I hope your birthday got better! You’re not a failed 15 yr old at ALL. You’ll drive, don’t worry! 😀 *high five*
Puppies! 😀 Ohh, y’all should. What kind of pup do you want?
Yess, Maverick is an amazing movie. And YES YES YES. It’s a blessing to have little one’s (nieces and nephews); I have characters based off my nieces… And other youngsters are easy to write when you have models and such! ♥
Have you chosen a cover yet? ;P Maybe you could do a vote/poll or something…
    Happy birthday Kellyn! 🙂

      1. Oh garsh! Stupid spellcheck!!! Lol 😉 I did mean twinsies!! Ha! It did it again! Imma go turn spellcheck off…

  6. Happy birthday!!!! I love your blog tags–they’re pretty fun. 😉 I may have to do the covers one sometime. 😉 I tagged you for the MG/YA writer’s one, and you can do the booklover’s one if you want.
Aw, sorry about your driver’s permit. We had similar trouble getting mine. Hopefully it will all shake out soon. 😉

  7. 15 and driving?!?! you get to drive early, lucky 🙂
    HAPPY BDAY!!!
I hope it gets better 🙂
Lets see, its still today where I am, BUT DID I MISS THE DEADLINE???
    noooo.
    just no.
    jk.
    mostly 😉

    1. Yeah, you get your learner’s permit at 15 in Oregon. I can’t imagine anything else! 😀 Of course you can’t drive without someone over 21 in the car, but still. 🙂

  8. HAPPY BIRTHDAY KELLYN! *throws gummy worms on you*
I hope your birthday gets better! I’m sure it will. 🙂
15 and driving? My mom said I can’t even think about getting my permit until I’m 18! Or 17. :/ I want to drive NOW. *pouts* JK, I’m only twelve. 😉

          1. There are many things you can do to prepare for driving, I’ve found out! Step 1 is to practice driving a shopping cart. I used to be completely AWFUL driving shopping carts. XD Step 2: Help Dad or Brother fix cars; turn the steering wheel, press the accelerator or brake, etc. I’ve done that several times. 😛 Step 3: Drive a tractor out of a rut because Dad can’t; he needs to push the tractor!
There may be other steps, like an early step would be learning to ride a bike. A later step is to drive a golf cart! 😛 I should write a book!
            CutePolarBear

            1. I got my permit today!!! 😀 And drove all the way home. It was … well, I could say it was easier than I expected, but to be truthful I’ve already been driving. XD

  9. Aw I’m sorry Kelly! I hope it turned out to be an okay birthday despite the setbacks 🙂 If it’s any consolation, my 15th birthday wasn’t great at all–it was raining and nobody said happy birthday LOL. But my 16th was much better, and yours will be too! And you don’t have to get your permit right when you’re 15, so don’t feel like a failed 15 yr old! I didn’t get my permit until months later, and I’m eligible for my license now and I still haven’t got it! Just focus on your blessings 😉 Hope all is well!

    1. It turned out okay after a while. 🙂 In my family, getting your permit is a huge deal (because my dad drives for a living, I guess?) and … yeah. But no one really cares so much as I do. XD

  10. Happy Birthday, Kellyn! (Just as a side not, how is your name pronounced? Is it Kell-eye-n or Kellin? I think of your name as the latter, so that better be right! XD) I am actually a little offended, because you’re only 15 and have already published a book. That means I’m behind you! But have a good one anyway. 😉
Do you like driving? I am not looking forward to learning. 😛
And, finally, there were so many things you said that made me laugh. I hope that makes you happy! 😀
    CutePolarBear

    1. It’s Kellin! It’s a mix of the names “Kell” and “Lyn” and it also has links to the book Persuasion (Kellynch Hall, anyone? 😉 ). Oh, you’re publish a book soon! You know, assuming you’re going for self-publishing … traditional publishing is so hard! I do like driving. It’s great. 🙂 Yep, it makes me happy. I was laughing right along side you … at my own jokes … it was really awkward … XD

      1. Ah, yes, I was right! 😀 One day I saw your name and thought, Oh no, what if I was wrong about the pronunciation? 😛
Yup, I’m self-publishing! I can’t imagine the hassle and just awful-ness of traditional publishing. Besides that, and I would never get it published because I have to say, it’s not that good. It’s my first one, and I really like it, but hey, I’m a novice. 😉
